Pregnancy Nutrition and Diet – Significant Other

from:

In today’s terminology, a significant other means someone who has a very special relationship with you. Who could be more significant than the baby developing inside your womb? You and your baby have a unique relationship. Your body is the incubator for another human being, and this new human being in the making needs to be nourished. Pregnancy nutrition and diet is a plan for providing the nourishment you both need.

Grand Entrance

At every stage of our life, there are recommended nutritional requirements. When we are very young, we need lots of calcium for growing bones. When we are middle-aged, we need more iron. During pregnancy, it is important to eat specific foods that nourish you and your baby. When your baby makes his or her entrance, you want it to be grand. This means having a healthy baby by following a pregnancy nutrition and diet plan.

• Take a daily multivitamin that provides 100% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals

• Get 30 mg of iron daily

• Get 400 micrograms of folic acid daily

• Eat a balanced diet

The truth is that a pregnant woman should eat sensibly, as she should even if she were not pregnant. If you live a healthy lifestyle all along, getting pregnant just means you should add vitamins and supplements to aid the baby’s proper development. A good pregnancy nutrition and diet plan will:

• Insure proper brain development

• Insure proper nervous system development

• Reduce the chance of birth defects

• Create a strong immune system

If you baby gets the proper nutrition before birth, the chances are greatly increased that he or she will be born healthy. Following a pregnancy nutrition and diet plan that focuses on prenatal health gives your baby a head start on a healthy childhood. It is well known that the health condition a baby is at birth can possibly affect the child’s health the rest of his or her life.

Theatrical Production

There is nothing more dramatic in life than giving birth. But the drama of birth pales in comparison to the drama of an unhealthy infant struggling to overcome deficiencies created by poor prenatal diet. It is important to understand that what you eat is more important than how much you eat. The old saying that you are “eating for two” does not mean you should eat twice as much. It means you should adjust your diet to accommodate you and your baby’s nutritional needs. A pregnancy nutrition and diet plan will include healthy meals and snacks that you can eat throughout the day.

• Increase fruits and vegetables to 7 servings a day

• Eat only moderate amounts of fat

• Eat whole grain foods

• Eat protein in moderation

In the end, the recommendations are just common sense for anyone who wants to eat a healthy, balanced diet. So make sure your baby is the star of the show - follow a doctor recommended pregnancy nutrition and diet plan.

Mom's excess pounds key in newborn weight

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - For at least some moms-to-be, it's extra body fat -- and not blood sugar levels -- that may be key to their risk of having a big baby, a study published Tuesday suggests. Researchers found that among 472 pregnant women they followed, those who were heavy before pregnancy or gained too many pregnancy pounds were more likely to have a "large-for-gestational-age" baby ...
