How to Find Plus Size Maternity Clothes

from:

There have been some plus size women who have a very hard time finding plus size maternity clothes.

The good news is that not all large women necessarily need special maternity wear. This is because large women as a group tend to gain less weight during pregnancy and therefore show less. This means plus size women can sometimes get by with regular clothes during pregnancy, or by buying clothing a size or two larger than normal.

Some large women make the conscious choice not to buy any special maternity wear during pregnancy in order to save money. But there are others who feel forced into this situation because they think or are unaware of plus size maternity clothes resources.

Women around size 24 or larger can often get away with regular clothes in slightly larger sizes for most of their pregnancy because they likely won’t gain as much weight or size. But women at the smaller end of plus sizes (sizes 16 to 22) will probably need to buy special plus-size maternity clothes because they’ll probably gain weight and size more like smaller women.

This means that if you fall into these size ranges, you should be prepared to spend a fair amount of money on maternity wear. Maternity wear is generally more expensive than regular clothing, but plus size maternity clothes often cost even more.

You might be able to find plus size maternity clothes in consignment shops. The consignment shops known to carry larger maternity clothes are Baby and Me Consignments, Maternity Treasures, and The Fairy Godmother at Large. Check your local phone book to see if there are any of these stores near you.

Ebay also often has plus size maternity clothes for sale. If you have any sewing skills you can save money by making your own maternity clothes.

Other good places to find plus size maternity clothes are:
Grand Style's website, www.PlusMomMaternity.com
Jake and Me, www.jakeandme.com
Baby Becoming, www.babybecoming.com
J.C. Penney, www.jcpenney.com
Motherhood Maternity, www.motherhood.com
Maternity For Less, www.maternity4less.com
Pickles and Ice Cream, www.plusmaternity.com
You can order online or if there is an actual store in your area, you can visit the store in person.
Kohls is also a good place to find great plus size maternity clothes. Some of their regular plus size clothes also work for during pregnancy, so you won’t necessarily have to stick to the maternity department.
Target also sometimes carries plus size maternity clothes.

As a large woman you’ll find that your clothing needs will vary greatly during pregnancy, just like the women who are called more average sized. You may not need special maternity clothes, but the best thing to do is wait and see what you will need. By waiting you can more accurately determine your maternity clothing needs.
